Warning: Mushy

This afternoon when I picked Asher up from daycare, he was sitting on the mat with his back to the door. He didn't see me walk in, so he just kept playing with his little toy. I knelt down behind him and said, "Hey, Asher. Have you had a good day?" When he heard my voice, he turned and looked up at me and smiled. Now, his smiles are always sweet and precious, etc. but there was something about this smile that was different... special. He was radiating pure, unadulterated JOY. Not just the temporary "I'm so glad I have this blue toy" joy. Have you heard the country song, "I Saw God Today"? Or maybe the verse in the Christmas song "Mary Did You Know?" that says "...when you kissed your little baby, you kissed the face of God"? That's what I saw in his face. I saw the love and joy of Christ in the face of my son today. Pure acceptance, unconditional love, contentment, innocence... I could just cry while I am typing this because the feeling was so overwhelming. I love all of my children, but Asher has a special spirit. If you have been around him very much, you know what I am talking about. I hope this doesn't sound conceited (like my usual "my baby is better than all the other babies" posts, which are meant to be humorous, by the way). God gave me a gift in that simple, precious moment and I just wanted to share it.

Have a great week!!
