Happy Faux Fourth!

Happy Faux Fourth to those of you who, like me, are off work today since July 4th fell on a Saturday this year! Our pre-Independence Day has been a good one so far.

After feeding Asher a nutritious breakfast of oatmeal cereal (pictures to be posted soon), Belle and I stopped by our FAVORITE locally-owned donut shop, Harlow's Donuts, and did our part to boost the local economy. They make great kolaches, but today we stuck with the good ol' chocolate filled donuts.

When we got home, we loaded up in the van and went TV shopping. (Our TV semi-died. Let me be the first to congratulate Jeff for purchasing the extended warranty!) He decided on one, which he purchased from our locally-owned tiny little Sears store. I am telling myself it is locally-owned because that makes me feel better about getting another TV.

Tonight we are going to watch the fireworks display, not from the lake where they will be taking place, but from the high school football stadium across the highway from the lake. We live four houses from the high school, so we don't have to get stuck in traffic or sit on the ground to see the show! I am at my patriotic best when I am comfortable.

Tomorrow we MAY go to Fort Polk for the Freedom Fest: actual soldiers, free Clint Black concert, and the largest fireworks show around set to patriotic music. Ooh, and LOCALLY-OWNED food vendors. Support your local economy by having some alligator on a stick, funnel cakes, and other assorted fried delicacies! (We may die young, but we'll go fat and happy!)

Happy pre-4th and God Bless America!

All the talk of greasy food brings me right back to our delightful jaunt to Colfax...call me if you are going to Clint Black. I think the hubs could be talked in to it. :)
