Heart Surgery - End of Day 3, Home on Day 4!

On Wednesday afternoon, Asher relaxed while we waited to be moved to the pediatric floor. We were excited about being one step closer to going home, but we were a little apprehensive about leaving the "round the clock" care.



Yay! Wednesday night... A brand new (SMALLER) room and brand new pajamas! Grandma bought several pairs of pj's, cut the shirts right down the middle, and sewed on two little pieces of soft "baby" Velcro to hold them closed. We didn't know what we would be dealing with when we came home, and they have been much easier to put on and take off. So what if SpongeBob is a cyclops now.

Thursday morning, Asher had a chest xray and an echo cardiogram. Both indicated that the surgery was a complete success! That afternoon, we were taught how to change the dressing on his wound. Asher also had his hair washed. I asked the nurse to do it because I knew it was going to be awful. After all he has been through, the worst screaming he did was during the hair washing! Notice who is NOT taking part in the process... ME! We were discharged Thursday afternoon after he had his IVs pulled out of his feet (ouch).

He didn't seem to mind being put into his car seat. I think he knew he was going HOME.



Friday morning, Asher was SO excited when I carried him into the living room and he saw all of his toys. Can you believe this picture was taken barely 4 days after he was on heart-lung bypass and a ventilator with his chest wide open?

Friday evening, the Normand family came by for a visit. Here is Faith holding Asher while Jeff kisses him goodbye before heading out to the CCA football game. What is she wearing?! Asher tries not to judge. He loves her anyway.

Before I post the picture from this morning, I want to post one from Tuesday, the day after his surgery.

And here he is just FOUR DAYS later. Incredible, isn't it?



Whenever you are tempted to doubt the power of prayer, look at the two pictures above. Four days. God still performs miracles, and He is good.
